Day Trips Around Provence

We visited Arles (where Van Gogh lost his ear) and a little high-top village called Les Baux de Provence...both were really interesting, and we were pretty much the only tourists around.


The light at the end of the day in Provence makes everything have a lovely, golden glow on it. Here are two churches that overlook a huge valley.

This is Andy in front of a cafe that has been recreated to look like Cafe Terrace at Night, one of Van Gogh's famous painting of Arles. Unfortunately, Arles does not have any of Van Gogh's paintings.

Andy had the stage to himself at the Roman Theatre in Arles. The ruins were really impressive, and the coolest part of the ruins in Arles is that they are still used. Summer concerts and performances still take place on this stage.

Just in case you were thinking we are baking in the sun, or that Lindsay had discovered a new French hair gel -there is the strong Provencal wind that reminds us that it is late November.

Again, we were the only tourists in this awesome, Roman amphitheatre. They still have bull fights here (they were brought over from Spain!), and the restoration process is pretty incredible - as the structure of the amphitheatre is mostly intact.
