Where, oh where should we start our next day in Rome?
After spending the whole day in the Vatican, we went in search of Roman history...which didn't take long to find! This is Andy with his contemporaries(!) in the Hall of Philosophers (among the greats, like the poet Homer of course), in the Capitoline Museum - the museum that houses basically more than 2000 years of Roman history.
This is the outside of the museum that overlooks the whole city... it's surrounded by a piazza that was designed by Michelangelo and is supposed to be THE most perfect piazza in the world...naturally...we must confess we did wonder if Rome would be half the city it is if Michelangelo had not worked there). We came to the museum more for a serious sugar rush, as we had been on our feet for nearly 8 hours with little food or drink, but ended up really enjoying how the museum portrayed a great overview of the story of Rome - who would have guessed that the origins of Rome begun with a She-wolf and some twins...! Google it if you don't believe us.
This is the Roman Colesseum, and the Temple of Saturn on the right. Andy surprised Lindsay by his intense love (insane?) for archeology; he read every single sign that existed and explored all the crooks and crannies for undiscovered treasures...! 
We like this picture because someone took it for us (rather than the usual pose), and it shows a good example of how layered the history in Rome is. The ground is an old Roman Road, the arch celebrating the Emperor Sextus, with the Baroque church in the background.
