The Pudding Club

We've been busy the last couple of weeks so haven't posted much, but we've had some great adventures to update you on...not the least of which is moving to California. But (!) there were some great memories to leave England on. For Christmas, Jon and Tash gave us a surprise...a night at the Pudding Club in Chipping Camden in the Cotswolds. It was the first time all 6 of us had ever been out together, which was a real treat! (Big thank you to Hanmer and Lucile who were grandparents extraordinaire and watched the kids).

What is the Pudding Club, you ask? First, we need to start out with what is a pudding. On this side of the pond, it is a generic term for dessert, but usually one that is steamed and is served with custard, cream or ice cream - yum! The Pudding Club is run by proprietors of a small hotel who felt that as hotels and B&Bs went upmarket, so did their desserts - and not always for the better. So, they felt they needed to bring back the classic English pudding, served with lashings of custard or cream.

A Classic Pud with lashings of custard

The Pudding Club is hosted every Friday and Saturday night with one seating. You are given a lovely and small meal, so that you can save room for the 7 (!!!) puddings you will try after dinner. The goal? To make it through all 7; if you do, you can have as many servings of pudding as you want. The record? Twenty-five puddings in one night. The gentleman who was our host for the evening did acknowledge he'd just signed up for Weight Watchers. We can see why.

After each pudding, you get to give it a score. We decided it would be fun to try them all together in the same order. We had different winners for the night including: chocolate sponge pudding (with chocoholic chocolate sauce!), stem ginger pudding, banana and cinnamon, and finally the classic apple crumble.

The 7th Pudding...

Note Lindsay is still smiling. All in all we had a great evening together and look forward to more adventures together. Thanks Jon and Tash for a great Christmas gift!
