A is for Amsterdam

We arrived in Amsterdam and stayed at a LP's (Lonely Planet) recommended hotel. It is a bit hysterical - 40 stairs greet you the moment you walk in (altitude is an issue at the top!), and the foyer is a wonderland of Dutch kitsch. Check out their website, and it will give you a taste: http://www.nadia.nl/

However, we were so happy to drop our bags and head in search of a coffee and pancake. We ended up roaming the streets for a long time, and really just enjoying not having a schedule.

A highlight of the trip included dinner with Kellen (David's lovely lady) who happened to be in Amsterdam for the world's largest flower show - naturally! It was great to be able to see good friends in a foreign city.

Amongst the tourist attractions we did were the Van Gogh Museum (excellent) and the Anne Frank House (totally redone since Lindsay had last been). We also cycled ourselves silly around the canals in the city - which you think would help us know the place better...but alas not so much?! Plus we ate lots of great food in the Jordaan area - all in all, a great time in a great city!
Quiz for anyone who knows Andy: what kind of pancake did he order...?

  1. Correct! Jon, you win our prize...a pancake! with lemon and sugar, of course! Made by Andy, of course (1 for you, 2 for him.... you know how it goes:)
